The Swiss hotel management company Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has appointed Jose Alberto Ocasio, a respected industry figure with a strong high-end property pedigree, to steer the launch of Mövenpick Resort Boracay.
Scheduled to open in July 2016, Mövenpick Resort Boracay is the second Mövenpick-branded property in the Philippines after the 245-room contemporary-styled Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu.
“We are very pleased to have landed someone of Jose’s talent,” said Andrew Langdon, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Senior Vice President Asia. “He has spent his career in key roles at some of the best brands in the world, and as such he is ideally placed to further enhance the Mövenpick brand in this high-potential market.”
US national Mr Ocasio, fluent in English and Spanish, stated his career with Ritz-Carlton in the States, beginning in 1996 as a Front Desk Agent/Night Relief Manager at The Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City. He held positions at three other Ritz-Carlton hotels, including in Philadelphia and Bahrain, before leaving the company in 2009 after serving as Executive Assistant Manager (rooms) for the brandงs Cancun property.
Mr Ocasio’s first general manager assignment came at Banyan Tree Club & Spa, Seoul in 2012, with that followed by general manager stints at Banyan Tree Hotel and Resorts/Angsana Velavaru, the Maldives and Banyan Tree Hotel and Resorts/Angsana Laguna Phuket, Thailand.
“It’s a great honour to be handed the reins to this highly distinctive hotel for its launch,” Mr Ocasio said. “It is a very special addition to the Mövenpick portfolio, what with the many unique characteristics that give it such great appeal and boundless potential – all of which are founded on Mövenpick’s exacting yet warm Swiss standards.
“Mövenpick Resort Boracay sits in a gorgeous private cove, with its low-rise design gentle on the surrounding pristine environment. It is perfect for events such as weddings and other romantic occasions as well as family gatherings, while its unique brand characteristics include Go Healthy, Chocolate Hour and Power Bites.”
The 333-room Mövenpick Resort Boracay is located in the north west of Boracay island on idyllic Punta Bunga Beach, famed for its powdery white sand, breathtaking sunsets and aquamarine waters. It comprises a village community-style cluster of nine low-rise buildings blended seamlessly with the natural environment nestled around a multi-level lagoon pool.
Key features include eight innovative restaurant concepts with Italian, Japanese and Korean specialist outlets and intimate beachfront private dining spaces, plus an organic garden from where Mövenpickงs chefs will source the freshest and healthiest ingredients.
Beach lifestyle will be celebrated to the full at Mövenpick’s Beach Club, which will feature music and other entertainment. The wellness centre will have six treatment rooms, including a dedicated couples room, and a full range of fitness care programs such as yoga, tai chi and aqua aerobics. The water sports centre will also offer an extensive range of activities.
Children will be well taken care of at a spacious Kids Club featuring fun and education activities, kid’s check-in, special in-room amenities and outdoor activities.
