egtmedia59Reports from Greece and the US say that MSC Magnifca, carrying 2,469 passengers and 976 crew members has suffered damage while entering the port of Piraeus.

MSC Magnifica - wikipediaSome reports say that the vessel ran aground, with claims that Greek port authorities released the information, with no injuries or major damage arising from the accident, with bad weather conditions apparently a factor in the grounding.

One news account also says that maritime experts are currently investigating the accident, while most of Greece continued to be swept by storms today.

Other reports including from Cruise Critic say that Magnifica suffered damage to the hull after hitting a mooring light in the Piraeus, with the 86,600 tonne vessel hitting the mooring light as she attempted to dock in Piraeus, causing slight damage to the port structure as well as the ship’s hull, with repairs currently being carried out.

Cruise Critic also says that MSC Cruises confirmed there were no injuries or major damage arising from the incident which was blamed on strong gusts of wind as the ship entered the port, with a spokeswoman for the MSC saying, “The Captain and crew of MSC Magnifica acted quickly, and the ship was able to moor normally.”

“MSC Magnifica is expected to leave Piraeus harbour at the end of the afternoon with only a slight delay on its timetable.”

“The itinerary will remain unchanged and the ship will call in Katakolon tomorrow morning, as scheduled.”
