Bespoke chocolate maker Luke Spencer has won a Gold Medal at the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards with Spencer Cocoa’s 72% Single Plantation Dark Chocolate.
The nationally recognised award has once again placed a spotlight on the Mudgee Region and cemented its place as one of Australia’s premium destinations for fine food and produce.
“Mudgee is fast gaining a reputation as a hot bed for high quality produce so it’s fantastic to see Luke recognised for his exquisite chocolate. The award demonstrates just how quickly Mudgee is developing into a world-class foodie hot spot, supported of course by our award-winning wineries.” Said Cara George, CEO Mudgee Region Tourism.
The Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards is Australia’s premium fine food event conducted by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria. The award celebrates boutique producers, regional specialists, and fine food manufacturers across 14 product categories.
The award-winning chocolate is made in Mudgee by one of only a handful of ‘bean to bar’ chocolate makers in Australia and uses cocoa beans sourced from just a few growers on the island of Malekula, Vanuatu. Luke visits Vanuatu twice per year to select the cocoa beans for Spencer Cocoa, and continues working with the cocoa growers there to help improve business and bean quality.
*Spencer Cocoa chocolate is available at the following local Mudgee stockists: High Valley Wine & Cheese, Mudgee Corner Store, The Shop and Market Street Café.
Meet the chocolate maker himself at Mudgee’s monthly Farmers Markets (3rd Sat of the month).
