The ITE 2016 is primed to see a record turn-out of buyers and exhibitors gather together at Ho Chi Minh City from the 8-10 September. The event is billed as the Mekong region’s largest travel expo and it is to be expected that Myanmar would have great expectations from the ITE.
Most of the buyers at the ITE HCMC will be from Asia and Myanmar plans to enhance its marketing and promotional activities through this forum, as the Asia Pacific region is its main target market.
Although the country has a limited budget for tourism promotion, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism works in close collaboration with other line ministeries such as that of Transport and Communication as also Construction, in order to develop and facilitate tourism infrastructure.
The Mekong has a lot to offer in terms of natural diversity, which can be a huge potential tourism magnet. Myanmar hopes to position itself in this regard by promoting the abundant and diverse cultural and natural
resources it possesses, thereby increasing its tourist footfalls.
In terms of the ASEAN scenario, Myanmar hopes to play a bigger role by implementing tourism activities under the framework of regional tourism organisations such as ASEAN, GMS, ACMEC, BIMSTEC and so on. The country has been actively participating in the implementation of the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP 2016-2025.)
