In September this year, 150 fundraising teams will embark on an adventure of a lifetime, crossing mysterious landscapes armed with gaffer tape, cable ties and a whole lot of courage.
Now in its fourth year, Mystery Box will take a convoy of 300 participants on a five-day unforgettable rally all in the name of a good cause, starting Saturday 24th September 2016.
A light hearted approach to a serious cause, Mystery Box, the mad baby brother of Shitbox Rally, is completely unique with teams approaching the starting point in Adelaide with nothing but their personal essentials. It’s a leap of faith as teams journey together out of their comfort zones to destinations unknown along some of Australia’s most deserted and scenic roads. The round trip offers a different challenge to Shitbox Rally – fewer teams, shorter in distance and less days travelling but no less daring as teams begin the rally without a car or any idea of where they are headed.
Could it be a breezy drive along the Southern Ocean coastline by the sheer cliffs of the Great Australian Bight? Or perhaps to cross The Nullarbor for an authentic taste of the quintessential outback experience? Destinations are kept secret with the daily destinations unveiled just before the convoy heads off each morning to ensure it is a truly unique challenge.
But the mystery doesn’t stop there. With no knowledge of the vehicle or what’s under the bonnet, teams will bid on their dream mystery box based on their fundraising amount at a private auction the night before the rally starts. Drivable and roadworthy, all of the cars for the rally are provided by Manheim Auctions Australia who ensure they are registered and ready for an adventure.
Box Rallies Founder, James Freeman explains this unorthodox approach, “With no need to source their own cars, anyone can join the rally and focus on what’s really important – fundraising whilst having fun.”
“Mystery Box Rally is a rewarding experience for like-minded individuals to come together in a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, all in the name of raising much needed funds and awareness for cancer research initiatives. This year marks the 5th adventure of Mystery Box Rally and each route brings a different view to discovering Australia with some exciting drives ahead” says James Freeman.
