The seemingly inexplicable death of a child on a Lufthansa flight from Shanghai to Munich is perplexing investigators.
The plane was diverted to Russia in a desperate attempt to provide medical treatment for the child, who was travelling with her parents, the Independent reported.
Russian news service Tass reported that the aircraft, an A340-600 operating flight LH 727, landed early in the morning and the child, an ethnically Chinese Italian citizen, was pronounced dead by a doctor at Krasnoyarsk airport.
Russian medical investigators said the girl was not breathing and had no pulse. All attempts at resuscitation failed. The flight, carrying 268 passengers, later continued to Munich, arriving three hours late.
German outlet PZ News added, cryptically, that the unnamed child suffered a “pre-existing condition”, but gave no further details.
