egtmedia59Details of an incident in which a woman claims she was sexually violated and punched in the face on an Air New Zealand flight from Sydney were shrouded in mystery last night, with police appealing for witnesses.

Newshub, a New Zealand news service that airs on TV3 and radio stations run by MediaWorks, related how the woman, who for legal reasons cannot be named, posted on Facebook an account of how a man “stuck a hand down her top” and punched her in the face on a Sydney to Auckland flight.

Newshub reported that the woman had reported the incident to police, who had launched an investigation.

Air New Zealand issued a limited response, pointing out that as the matter was in the hands of the police, they could not comment further.

“What we can say from a general perspective is that if an incident of this nature is reported on-board one of our aircraft, we generally arrange for one of the parties to be re-seated to establish clear separation, arrange for police to meet the aircraft on arrival, and hand over the matter for the Police to manage from there,” an Air NZ spokesperson told Newshub.
