14145161658pArmy Commander-in-Chief and Leader of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) General Prayut Chan-O-Cha has called on all groups of people and members of the public to give cooperation with the military in bringing peace and order to the country.

The call was made during his first press conference after he had received the royal command, issued on 24 May 2014, appointing him leader of NCPO.

The ceremony of receiving the royal command took place at the Army Headquarters on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue in Bangkok on 26 May 2014. General Prayut stated that the taking control of the country by NCPO on 22 May 2014 was not for power or personal gain but for peace and order in the country. Drastic measures were necessary, as the country could not move forward to democracy under the current situation, because conflicts still existed. However, they will ease when the situation improves.

He said that a Prime Minister would be appointed in the process and a general election would be held. However, no timeframe could be set, as this would depend on the situation.

The NCPO Leader also urged the media not to amplify the conflicts, saying that national reform must be carried out, as well.
