Artisanal cocktail club NEO is set to officially open on 25 June, bringing homemade concoctions to NoHo’s Shin Hing steps and cementing the steps as the ultimate pre-clubbing destination.
NEO’s neon doorway on the Shin Hing Steps
With vintage arcade games, stylish retro interiors and DJ sessions paired with creative drinks and bites, Hong Kong’s Shin Hing steps are quickly becoming a destination for socialising, thanks to Cocotte and its naughty little sister.
Those in the know enter through NEO’s doorway on Shin Hing Steps and head into the stylish cocktail club to soak in retro-chic vibes over cocktails with quirk. The artisanal cocktail menu comprises of individually sourced independent liquors that create unique tastes and allow for creativity behind the bar. Expect liquors such as Pineapple Infused Jamaican Overproof Rum, Ginger Honey Water Mescal and Homemade Cider Vinegar Syrup Bitters that tickle and please the palate. Kidult cocktails are equally as edgy; guests can sip on the House-Smoked Yoghurt Sour (HKD100), an unusual mix of pisco acholado, smoked yoghurt, citrus sugar, bitters and fresh egg white. The Express Polaroid(HKD110) a feisty mix of ghee buttered dark rum, coffee liqueur, freshly made espresso and tonic reduction syrup will tide movers over between dance-offs, trying their hand at the vintage Playboy 80s pinball machine and chitchats in the eclectic lounge.
Tasty bar bites (starting at HKD45) are on the menu, enjoy a range of fun and original Tartines, open sandwiches on freshly baked bread, garnished with naughty toppings to nibble on or a selection of NEO’s Brochettes. The sticks are perfect for sharing and pairing with a cooling cocktail such as NEO’s already lusted after Cosmic Pop (HKD90), which consists of vodka, dry Curaçao, citrus, cranberry juice, mineral water and fizz.
Candace Campos of ID Design, the mastermind behind Cocotte’s elegant interior, has designed NEO with retro eloquence; think eighties pop rock and geometric lines. Loyal to the location, the naughty little sister’s cheeky lighting culture pays homage to Hong Kong’s heritage of neon lights, celebrating life in colour and style. Candace has created an unusual underground space that will accommodate seriously good parties. The interiors set off the vibe and facilitate dancing, sipping, snacking and socialising. The space is fitted out with a custom built DJ booth and is a welcoming venue for guest DJs to take for a spin (which they will do, on a nightly basis). Expect a soundtrack that mirrors the interiors, moving from funk to Motown to electro and everything in between.
Cocotte, Noho’s fondly regarded Parisian Bistro, was opened last year by the Moldovan brother trio. “Seeing how happy guests are to step off the high-street and dine by the Shin Hing steps, where we have a chilled pace and party vibe, we thought it was the perfect venue for a cocktail club concept. Our customers like the off-the-beaten-track location,” said Brice Moldovan, Managing Director of Cocotte and NEO.
