NEST Tulum beach residence opens new villa space in Mexico

NEST Tulum on Mexico’s spectacular Yucutan coastline will open the doors on two new garden villas to complete the lush nine room beach residence this October.

The unique boutique property has cemented its name for naturally simple design and barefoot style since opening in December 2015. Operating with a bed and breakfast tariff, think of NEST Tulum as a private beach lodge for like minded travellers looking for stress free time out.  With a choice of beach front, ocean view and garden rooms, NEST guests can travel solo, in a couple, with friends or book out the entire property exclusively for 22 guests.

“We wanted to create a space where guests can connect with each other over shared travel stories in one corner and chill out with a good book in another” explains Founder James Chippendale who packed up his Austin Texas life after years beating cancer and made the permanent seachange to Tulum in 2015. Chippendale sought out Mexico’s best craftsmen and spent three months travelling the country to personally curate the design of NEST Tulum.

“I wanted that space to be both approachable and elegant in relaxed design” explains Chippendale of his approach.

“We found some amazing objects and stand alone pieces in the rejected bins of some of the regions woodworkers and we dug through dozens of old warehouses of antique furniture in San Miguel. Nothing beautiful goes to waste at NEST and we pride ourselves in our desire to refurbish and bring design back to life in a unique non mass produced way.”

NEST is all about being home, away from home, no crowds, no pressure. Even the ‘no label’ mezcal comes from Chippendale’s friend Guido who lives in the nearby pueblo.

The former private beach house has been converted into an outdoor den of design and detail and boasts a relaxed open air communal area with private bar and dining and a roof top deck for ocean sunsets. NEST is a true oasis with an envied beachfront location steps away from Tulum’s best restaurants and bars including Conde Nast favorite, Hartwood.

The intimate beach club is for in house guests only with relaxed day beds for two, hammocks, bean bags and Adirondack chairs in soothing neutral hues to soak in the Caribbean blue view.

A new open air kitchen for fresh seafood grills and wood fired pizza will also be a central feature coming into peak holiday season.

NEST Tulum Garden Rooms start at US$190 + tax per night including breakfast.

NEST Tulum Garden Villas start at US$240 + tax per night including breakfast.
