New AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR combines optical brilliance with telephoto agility

today Nikon Australia announces that it is massively improving its telephoto photography experience with the new AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR. Major features include an approximate 4.3x telephoto zoom lens that covers a broad range of focal lengths (up to 300mm when used with an FX-format camera). The new lens is also designed with a stepping motor to provide fast, quiet, and smooth autofocus (AF) drive.

“We are pleased to introduce the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR to our users, extending yet another expedient lens to their photography kit as they go out into the wilderness for nature’s beauty, capture action in a fast-paced sport, or simply to roam the lands for a picturesque landscape. Refined NIKKOR technology and optics have also made this lens lightweight and portable, while still being durable in its form,” said James Murray, Managing Director, Nikon Australia Pty Ltd.

This latest NIKKOR lens is also equipped with a Vibration Reduction (VR) function that provides a level of compensation equivalent to a 4.5-stop* increase in shutter speed. In addition, the SPORT mode normally reserved for super-telephoto lenses has also been built into the VR function. The image displayed in the viewfinder is stabilised so photographers can easily frame the intended shot, even when capturing a subject that is moving rapidly and unpredictably.

Despite the fact that the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR is a telephoto zoom lens that covers a broad range of focal lengths up to 300mm, its meticulously crafted lightweight design provides a weight of approximately 680g* to give it superior portability, and enable nimble, hand-held telephoto photography. Resistance to dust and drip was considered with the design of this lens, as was the photographer’s comfort and ease of use when a smooth operational feel was achieved for the focus and zoom rings. When used with a DX-format camera, the lens supports a maximum focal length equivalent to 450mm (with conversion to 35mm [135] format), making it easy to utilise the agility of the DX-format DSLR to further enjoy telephoto photography.

AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Primary Features

  • Clarity in range: perfect for a sporting event or a safari trip, this lens offers high-magnification telephoto photography in a range of 70-300mm focal length that comes with a minimum focus distance of 1.2m and a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.25x. Shoot sharp and striking shots with the Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) lens element that suppresses chromatic distortion for superior optical performance. Images of a kayaking adventure under the bright afternoon sun will not disappoint.

  • Smooth operator: enjoy quiet and smooth AF control that doesn’t compromise on its speed with the adoption of a stepping motor for the AF drive operation. The NORMAL mode built into the lens’ VR mechanism offers vibration compensation with an effect equivalent to a shutter speed of 4.5 stop* faster for greater control. A SPORT mode is also available with the VR function. Increasing the functionality of the lens is the electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism. This ensures precise aperture control as you capture the faces of a tackled NRL player or the endearing sight of a herd of elephants by the glow of the setting sun.

  • Practicality focused: recognising that photographers using the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR aren’t always going to find themselves in the perfect shooting conditions, this lens was designed with dust and drip resistance. Complementing the lens’ resilience are focus and zoom rings that smoothly rotate for operational ease, comfort and handling.

*Based on CIPA standards. In NORMAL VR mode when a DSLR camera equipped with a full-size, 35mm film equivalent image sensor is used. Measured at the maximum telephoto position

*Measured in accordance with CIPA standards
