New BreakFree on Cashel General Manager Announced

Christchurch’s most anticipated hotel set to open in April 2015 – BreakFree on Cashel – has announced the appointment of a General Manager to helm the newly revamped $30 million 263- room development.

Graeme Back will commence as General Manager later this month, bringing with him a wealth of experience in hotel and tourism management roles in New Zealand, Australia and most recently, Fiji.  A New Zealand native, Graeme will leave his current post at Beqa Lagoon Resort in Fiji to head up the BreakFree on Cashel hotel, a vital new addition to Christchurch’s regeneration.

“I could not think of a more exciting project to take me back to New Zealand.  BreakFree on Cashel is an important development in the rebuilding of Christchurch and will bring a much needed supply of room inventory to cater to the growing number of leisure, conference and corporate travellers entering the city,” he said.

In addition to his recent Fiji post, Graeme was previously Group General Manager for Treasure Island Ltd. His experience in New Zealand includes General Manager roles at Heritage Auckland, Park Heritage Rotorua and Milford Sound Hotel as well as for tourism operator, Real Journeys in Queenstown.

“Graeme’s operational experience will prove invaluable as the BreakFree development takes shape, opening 179 rooms initially in April with the full 263 rooms to open in July.”

The remodelled hotel consists of 263 stylish hotel rooms – including the unique ‘pod style rooms’; a contemporary interactive Café/Restaurant & Bar; Breakfast Room, Guest Lounge; a conference room catering for up to 80 people and two boardroom style meeting spaces with capacity for 20 people; 24 hour reception; internet kiosk; guest laundry and onsite parking.

It will boast a convenient location amongst the city’s major landmarks and adjacent to the recently announced ‘The Crossing’ development due to open in October 2016.  A $140 million development, The Crossing will encompass an entire hectare with office and retail space; food and beverage outlets and a 630 space car park.
