New Congress Plus today unveils Hong Kong’s grandest buffet dining experience in an innovative eco-friendly setting

With premier views across stunning Victoria Harbour and unbeatable downtown convenience, newCongress Plus at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (“HKCEC”) celebrates its grand opening today.

Managed by Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Ltd (“HML”), the 20,000 sq. ft. restaurant seating 300 persons features a daily dinner buffet extravaganza, offering gourmet lovers a premier dining experience at exceptional value.

“We take pride in unveiling the city’s most extensive buffet offering an unrivalled 120 exquisite and healthy menu items, presented at interactive ‘live cooking’ stations by award winning chefs. Diners will marvel at the selections to choose from,” said HML’s Director of Food & Beverage, Ben Man.

The indulgent journey begins with sustainable seafood, ranging from New Zealand Black Abalone to whelks, scallops, geoduck, clams and snow crab legs, followed by over 50 appetizers, including organic and low carbon vegetables; and top quality nigiri sushi and sashimi.

World-class ingredients, such as the prized Sukiyaki of Hida A5-grade Wagyu beef from Gifu, 36-month aged Iberico ham, Healthy Wealthy Chicken, as well as Fish Maw and Braised Dried Seafood further elevate the Congress Plus buffet dining experience to a gourmet extravaganza.

To support local research, Congress Plus also uses a unique new BBQ roaster invented by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; which features avant-garde techniques allowing six different types of meat to be roasted at one time and ready in one minute.

In addition, a kaleidoscope of over 30 creative dessert items are also presented, including the liquid nitrogen treated Fruity Spheres made with fresh fruit puree, Floral Tiramisu and nourishing Sweet Milk with Bird’s Nest and Coconut.

Apart from the buffet, and upon request, Chef Angus Cheng, HML’s Executive Chef – Western Kitchen and his award winning team will design an exclusive and personalised fine dining menu, drawing inspiration from around the world and incorporating the best seasonal and sustainable ingredients for a truly bespoke dining experience.  An industry veteran with over three decades experience, Chef Cheng has served countless VIPs and celebrities from around the world.

Five private dining areas are available for special family or business gatherings. All private rooms overlook harbour and city lights from expansive windows, while one of them with its fully equipped kitchen also provides a perfect setting for close interaction with the culinary team.

Congress Plus’ extensive wine list highlights notable vintners from around the world and also includes organic or biodynamic red and white wine, such as Pinot Noir Cristom Sommers Reserve, Oregon, US 2009; Shiraz, Paxton MV, McLaren Vale, Australia 2012; Jean Marc Brocard Chablis, Burgundy, France 2012; Chenin Blanc, Mulderbosch, Stellenbosch, South Africa 2011/12 and many more.

Designed by Hong Kong based Kinney Chan & Associates, the new “green” Congress Plus interior design and décor underscores HML’s pledge to being environmentally conscious and using “green” and “recycled” products both throughout the restaurant and back of house.

“We wanted to convey a cityscape ambience that highlighted the restaurant’s unrivalled harbourfront location, using the “windows and lights” concept,” said Kinney Chan.

Congress Plus also employed a green design consultant on this project, as HML wanted every aspect of the interior to confirm and reflect the company’s corporate commitment to sustainability on every level.”

Decked out in warm and inviting tones, including white, mustard yellow and turquoise, Congress Plus conveys a warm and cosyatmosphere, while screens created with recycled wine bottles used to separate the floor space for additional diner privacy add another striking visual impact to the overall interior.

The entrance to Congress Plus also boasts a unique contemporary gallery space. The inaugural exhibition features inspiring works by a special group of talented Hong Kong artists with disabilities and is presented by HML in partnership with Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (“ADAHK”). Established in 1986, the ADAHK is the only organisation in Hong Kong dedicated to the artistic development of people with disabilities.

Congress Plus is located at Level 4, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong (or enter via 6/F of the Convention Plaza).

12 noon to 3 p.m. (Monday – Friday, except public holidays);

6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. (Monday – Sunday).

Monday – Thursday :  Adult : HK$518 / Child : HK$288

Friday – Sunday, Public Holidays and Eve of Public Holidays:  Adult: HK$568 / Child: HK$308

*Light buffet lunch from HK$138 while executive lunch sets range from HK$128.

*All prices are subject to 10% service charge.
