Sand Flats Recreation Area Flowers, a new book to identify flowers around Moab Utah.

Moab’s newest, Flower Guide to the High Desert, can be found at Back of Beyond Books on Moab’s Main Street or from www.BackofBeyondBooks.com online. Proceeds from the purchase of this book will go towards re-vegetation projects of Sand Flats Recreation Area. Sand Flats has around 40 miles of jeep/OHV trails, 120 primitive campsites, the world famous Slickrock Trail for motorcycles and mountain bikes, and is the access to Porcupine Rim mountain bike single track. While out and about, the desert flora dapples the surrounding nature and often will peak curiosity about the name of that plant. This new book will be a great means of identifying common shrubs, trees, flowers, cactus, and some notable grasses.

Coded by flower color and a few special labels to emphasize non-native species and species found nowhere else in the world, this field guide specifies the season a bloom will appear and designates the ideal plant community in which to find a plant. And if that is not enough, a few lines are dedicated to the natural history or observations. Please no matter how small or flamboyant a flower or plant is enjoy it with your eyes, no plucking, so other can see it too. Using your eyes, you are sure to not be treading upon another species of flora farther afield than the trail you are enjoying.

Another terrific tool is available for the hidden botanist in you using this link from Arches National Park as well.https://www.nps.gov/arch/learn/nature/wildflowers.htm. Perhaps a photo tour is in order too. Find one onhttp://discovermoab.com/tour.htm.
