Australians can see the maze of canals in Venice, the pristine mountains of Switzerland and cruise along the Main River in Germany visiting medieval towns and citadels nestled on the banks of the river as part of a fly, cruise and tour package released by Riviera Travel in partnership with with small ship specialist, Cruise Traveller.

The 16-night ‘Swiss Bells and German Citadels’ package is aimed at travellers looking to experience a variety of Europe’s most breathtaking locations, combining a seven-night small group tour from Venice to Zurich with a seven-night river cruise, which begins in Mainz, Germany, on the banks of the Rhine River and journeys along the beautiful, citadel-lined, Main river, ending in Nuremburg. After arriving in Venice, the itinerary begins the next day as guests travel inland to Sirmione, the town sits on the banks of Lake Garda and is dominated by the medieval Scaligero Castle that overlooks the lake. From there, guests will journey over seven days to Zurich, Switzerland visiting stunning sites such as, the vineyard covered hills of Franciacorta, Italy, the Swiss Alpine village of Wengen, nestled in the mountains, overlooking the waterfall valley of Lauterbrunnen and the iconic, wooden, Kapellbrucke bridge in Lucerne. From Zurich, guests board a train to the German city of Mainz to continue their journey.

Guests will then board Riviera Travel’s river ship, Jane Austen, and cruise for seven nights east through the dramatic Main River valley, with its medieval castles, quaint villages and architecturally diverse cities. Highlights of the river cruise include the medieval town of Wertheim with its moat protected castle and old town, the UNESCO-listed Bamberg and its Romanesque cathedral and the intriguing Bavarian city of Nuremberg steeped in history. The Tour ends in Nuremberg where guests will be transferred to the airport for their return flights home.
