For super fans looking to take the experience to the next level, Cheapflights has mapped nine locations set to feature in season six. Gerona, Spaincats

The Game of Thrones crew were spotted filming in the medieval town of Gerona from late August to October 2015. Scenes were shot in numerous locations including in the grand Gerona Cathedral. The most astute fans have long speculated that this will be the setting for Braavos’ Old Town.

Santa Florentina Castle, Spain

The medieval fortress in Canet del Mar, north of Barcelona, will be the setting of House Tarly. Also featured in season six are the 13th Century Montgrí Castle and the medieval town of Besalú, which are easily accessible from Gerona or Barcelona.

Bardenas Reales, Spain

Spain’s semi-desert plains in Navarre reportedly served as a filming backdrop for the Dothraki Sea, where Daenerys Targaryen is set to meet with another Dothraki tribe and their khalassar leader.

Peniscola, Spain

Peniscola in the province of Castellon is said to be the filming location for the city-state Meereen, but there’s much speculation it could also be Dorne. Filming locations within Peniscola include Portal Fosc, Plaza de Santa Maris, Plaza de Armas and Parque de la Artilleria.

Zafra Castle, Spain

The North Dornish Tower of Joy is rumoured to be where a much-anticipated flashback scene takes place, explaining what happened to Lyanna Stark. It’s located in the northeast of Spain overlooking the Campillo de Dueñas, in a region known for its harsh winters and semi-desert landscapes.

Alcazaba, Spain

This Moorish fortress of Alcazaba in Almeria also makes an appearance in season 6, reportedly serving as a filming backdrop for some scenes in Dorne.

Ballintoy, Northern Ireland

The picturesque fishing village of Ballintoy in county Antrim steps in as the fictional home of House of Greyjoy in the Iron Islands. You might recognise the harbour from series 2 when Theon Greyjoy returned to the Iron Islands from Winterfell.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik will return to our screens, serving as the setting of the capital city of the Seven Kingdoms, King’s Landing. With its cobbled streets, medieval layout and countless towers it’s no wonder the production team chose the “Adriatic Pearl” as the setting for Westeros’ main city
