New General Manager Appointed at Anantara Bali Uluwatu

Anantara Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa, the stunning new cliff-top resort on Bali’s secluded southern coast, is pleased to announce the appointment of a new General Manager – Mr. Stephan Winkler.

A German national, born in 1962, Stephan studied languages before entering the hospitality industry. Now an industry veteran of 30 years, Stephan started his hotel career in 1982 at Munich’s landmark hotel, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski. During the early years of his career, Stephan worked for hotels such as the Ritz in Paris and the Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg, then following Germany’s reunification, he was appointed Director of Sales &

In December 1994 Stephan moved to Asia for the first time as Director of Rooms for a number of five star hotels in Hong Kong and Jakarta.  1998 took him back to Munich as Director of Sales & Marketing of the then legendary Hotel Rafael, Germany’s first true ‘boutique’ hotel.

Stephan joined Starwood Hotels & Resorts in July 2001, as Deputy General Manager of Sheraton Heliopolis Hotel, Towers & Casino in Cairo, a position he held for three years, followed by his first General Manager position in 2003 at Lombok’s Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort. Having become quite a pre-opening specialist he opened Sheraton Hua Hin Resort & Spa, followed by The Westin Pune Koregaon Park in India and The Westin Macau Resort.

Now back in Indonesia, Stephan is at the helm of the new 74-suite Anantara Bali Uluwatu Resort. He commented, “I could not imagine a more exciting task, coming to the beautiful island of Bali and having the opportunity to lead the team at this stunning resort. I felt at home here immediately and I am grateful for the warm welcome I received from the Uluwatu team, the Owning Company and Anantara corporate office in Bangkok. Having gathered great talent, my team and I are excited and ready to offer truly memorable Anantara guest experiences at our beautiful resort!”

Apart from hotel and family life, little time is left for his other interests which include literature, the arts and golf. Stephan speaks several languages incl. French, Arabic and Bahasa Indonesia. He is married with two sons.
