Fredrick Arul has been selected as General Manager of Hyatt Hotel Canberra—A Park Hyatt Hotel. Arul began his career in hospitality over 30 years ago in Malaysia, and subsequently gained experience at leading hotels in locations as diverse as Switzerland, South Africa, Beijing and Bali. Most recently, Arul was Executive Vice President at TCC Hotels Management, managing the assets of 19 international hotels and overseeing both operations and development.

“I would like to thank outgoing General Manager Mikael Svensson for his incredible contribution to Hyatt Hotel Canberra—A Park Hyatt Hotel over the past four years,” says Robert Dawson, Hyatt’s Area Vice President for the Pacific region. “Mikael has left a significant imprint, but I am confident that Fredrick—with his exemplary credentials and decades of frontline and management experience—will be an invaluable asset to the Hyatt Pacific team.”

Meanwhile in Mainland China, Carol Ren has been selected as the new General Manager of Hyatt Regency Chongming, effective since June 1, 2015. Ren commenced her career with Hyatt in 1999, joining the pre-opening Front Office team at Grand Hyatt Shanghai, which was the very first Grand Hyatt branded hotel in China. Due to her passion, dedication and strong leadership skills, she advanced to become Director of Rooms and part of the pre-opening team at Hyatt on the Bund in 2006, and subsequently was chosen to be its Hotel Manager in 2013.

“It is extremely rewarding to see Carol’s talent having developed, and continuing to develop, within Hyatt and I am fully confident that she is well prepared for this opportunity,” says Richard Greaves, Hyatt’s Area Vice President for China. “We are delighted that Carol will lead the Hyatt Regency Chongming team into the future and firmly believe her youthful dynamism and energy, together with her strong knowledge of the Shanghai market, will achieve even more success for the hotel.”

Where there are arrivals, there are inevitably departures and it is with mixed emotions that Hyatt announces the retirement of outgoing Hyatt Regency Chongming General Manager Douglas Schwab on June 12, 2015. Schwab was an integral part of the Hyatt family for 29 years, commencing his career at Hyatt Regency Hong Kong as Executive Assistant Manager—Rooms. Over the decades, Schwab has served Hyatt throughout the region, including as General Manager at Hyatt Regency Macau, Hyatt Regency Tianjin, Hyatt Regency Jing Jin City Resort and Spa and Hyatt Regency Chongqing Fuli.

“We congratulate Douglas on his many accomplishments during his outstanding career and wish him the very best in the next exciting chapter of his life,” says Christopher Koehler, Vice President & Managing Director of Hyatt Operations in China. “Douglas’ countless contributions to our company have been tremendous and he will be dearly missed by all.”
