New month-long festival to surface in August to showcase Port Stephens seafood – LOVE SEA FOOD – August 1-31, 2016
Love Sea Food is the name of a new, tastebud-pleasing festival to surface in Port Stephens this August to showcase the area’s premium, fresh seafood.
The month-long celebration will feature celebrity chefs and TV cooks, seafood cruises, a foodie’s weekend at d’Albora Marina, a family festival at the marina, cooking classes and demonstrations for adults and kids, markets, rides, live entertainment and discounted seafood lunches At more than 15 eateries across Port Stephens, 2.5 hours north of Sydney.
Spotlighting the region’s abundance of seafood and the characters and hardy seafarers who catch it, Love Sea Food event fromAugust 1-31, 2016, is a highlight of Destination Port Stephens’ year-round ‘Love Port Stephens’ marketing campaign. Sponsors also supporting the event include NSW Department of Primary Industries, Port Stephens Council, Newcastle Commercial Fishermen’s Co-op, Sydney Fish Market, d’Albora Marina, Oceanwatch and Huon Aquaculture.
Love Sea Food will feature:
* Weekday seafood lunch specials, with two courses and a beverage available for $30 per person at more than 15 restaurants and cafes across Port Stephens throughout August. For details, visit www.portstephens.org.au/
* Four Saturday seafood dinner cruises with Moonshadow Tamboi Queen Cruises from Nelson Bay on August 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 7pm – $69 per adult or $25.50 per child, featuring platters of Port Stephens king prawns and oysters. Bookings are direct with the cruise line on 02 4984 9388.
* Two special, three-course seafood Sunday lunches at the over-water restaurant, The Poyers, in Lemon Tree Passage, onAugust 14 and 28, including a return cruise to the restaurant from Nelson Bay with Moonshadow Tamboi Queen Cruises. * A ‘Fish to Dish’ weekend festival for seafood lovers at d’Albora Marina in Nelson Bay on Saturday and Sunday August 13 and 14 from 10am-3pm. The main marquee will host presentations by 2014 ‘My Kitchen Rules’ contestants Carly and Tresne, Sydney Seafood School presenter Brigid Treloar as well as renowned Tasmanian chef, Masaaki Koyama, and Frances Bender rom Huon Aquaculture in Tasmania. Plus an oyster shucking competition, wine-matching demonstration from Wonganella Estate in Port Stephens, beer-matching session with Murray’s Craft Brewery and the popular Sacred Tree Markets (Saturdayonly) on the Nelson Bay waterfront.
* A ‘Fish and Fun’ weekend festival for families at d’Albora Marina in Nelson Bay on Saturday and Sunday August 20 and 21from 10am-3pm. Featuring live entertainment, kids rides, face painting, marine life touch tanks, fish feeding, kids cooking classes, craft and painting workshops and animal petting zoo.
* ‘Seafood Lunch and Learn’ industry event on Monday August 15 from 10am-noon at Broughtons at the Bay in Nelson Bay. This free seminar is offered to students and those involved in serving seafood on the frontline in Port Stephens restaurants and cafes. The educational session and tasting session, hosted by popular, local fisherman, John “Stinker” Clarke, will provide information on types of seafood available in our waters and how best to promote them to potential guests. Destination Port Stephens Acting Destination Manager, Danny Eather, said Love Sea Food was aimed at meeting increasing demand from visitors keen to sample the local cuisine of destinations they visit. “The prawns, fish, oysters, crabs, lobsters and shellfish sourced from the pristine waters in and off Port Stephens are mouthwatering and available from markets just metres from the trawlers, with local diners enjoying it the same day in the many local restaurants that showcase our premium seafood,” Mr Eather said.
