The Dauphine Orleans Hotel of the New Orleans Hotel Collection is the only hotel from that city to be selected by a group of experts for inclusion in a poll that aims to select the TEN BEST HAUNTED HOTELS in the Nation prior to Halloween.
The vote is open to all, online, and voters are allowed to vote daily for their selection. The Dauphine Orleans Hotel in the historic French Quarter has long had reports by guests of several different ghosts. In 2012, the national Travel Channel Network held a special “lockdown” event overnight in the oldest section of the hotel, May Baily’s Place, a mid 19th century brothel run by “Madame” May Baily, an Irish immigrant woman. The famed paranormalist Jeff Belanger organized the event, and selected the Dauphine Orleans for this unusual call out amongst all the hotels in the New Orleans region.
The most often reported ghosts of the Dauphine Orleans include the “courtesan” a young bar mistress who comes and goes and often moves bottles, a “dancing girl” a rare “traveling ghost” who is seen in several courtyards of the historic district, “the lost bride”, reportedly the ghost of May Baily’s younger sister, wearing her wedding dress on a rear balcony, and a confederate officer, seen in the shadows of the courtyard. A rare orb, described as a ghost cat is also seen.
