Princess Cruises has welcomed Friedel Schamrel as the cruise line’s new Business Development Manager New Zealand.

Already a passionate cruiser, Mr Schamrel joins Princess Cruises with twelve years’ cruise experience, including more than 110 cruises with sister cruise brand Carnival Cruise Line in the US, working as a sommelier onboard its ships.

Aside from his time spent at sea, Mr Schamrel studied hospitality management and has more than eight years’ experience in the travel industry, working as a BDM as well as in retail.

Hailing from South Africa, Mr Schamrel is also passionate about rugby, and is keenly aware of the tough competition the mighty All Blacks present for his home team, the Springboks.

Mr Schamrel said he was excited to join the Princess Cruises team.

“I’m looking forward to taking agents onboard Princess ships for a first-hand experience, which is so helpful when recommending and selling the product,” Mr Schamrel said.

“My aim is to really grow the cruise market locally and to see New Zealand become the top performing region,” he said.

“Princess Cruises has the highest guest satisfaction in the industry and I’m keen for Kiwi agents to be part of the success story.”

Princess Cruises Head of Sales Brett Wendorf said he was very pleased to welcome Mr Schamrel to the team.

“Friedel has a wealth of experience in the travel industry and in cruising in particular, and we think he’ll get on well with the travel industry in New Zealand,” Mr Wendorf said.

“New Zealand is a hugely important market for Princess and it’s continuing to grow, so we’re looking forward to seeing it go from strength to strength with Friedel’s support,” he said.
