New Research Reveals Aussies Are Dealing With Aggression, Dangerous Driving And Excessive Fares In Taxis
Australians have divulged their taxi nightmares in a new survey where nearly 6 out of 10 (57%) respondents were unhappy about their journey based on tested scenarios.
According to the OmniPoll survey commissioned by Airtrain, the no worries way to reach Brisbane, the Gold Coast and suburbs from Brisbane Airport, 21% of people reported a journey where the driver took the wrong route and the trip became more expensive as a result.
The Airtrain Taxi Nightmares Surveyalso found:
· The most common problems, accounting for 65% of all issues, were the wrong route being taken, rude/aggressive drivers and erratic or dangerous driving
· 16% of 18-24 year olds endured a rude, aggressive or uncommunicative driver compared with only 5% of those aged 50 and over
· Nearly one in ten (8%) experienced erratic or dangerous driving when travelling in a taxi
· Almost a quarter of taxi passengers in NSW/ACT experienced the driver taking a longer/wrong route resulting in a higher fare paid, the most out of all states
The national survey was conducted online by OmniPoll and questioned 1221 Australians aged 18 and over about what has made them the most dissatisfied or unhappy with a taxi ride.
CEO of Airtrain, Chris Basche said the survey shows that a great majority of Australians have had a taxi experience they saw as overpriced, unreliable and sometimes unsafe.
“We commissioned the study to better understand our customers and ensure we’re delivering a valued service. As many Australians are fed up with taxis taking the scenic route and spiralling fares, Airtrain provides the perfect solution with great upfront and transparent fares and many discount opportunities to take advantage of,” he said.
A quick fare comparison shows the savings that can be made by travelling on Airtrain to and from Brisbane Airport. Two people can travel to Southbank cultural precinct on the train for a grand total of $28, with a taxi fare potentially costing double that, between $41.05 and $57.47*.
The following table demonstrates the value in using rail services to some of Brisbane’s most popular destinations.
