The Sierra Nevada Resort, located in the heart of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., announced its 2013/2014 Ski Mammoth package, offering guests skiing convenience to top-rated Mammoth Mountain, comfortable newly renovated rooms – and a blast from the past with Hollywood memorabilia tied to the resort’s past as a classic California mountain hideaway for celebs like the Rat Pack.

Sierra Nevada Resort’s new two-day/two-night lodging-and-lift ticket package starts from $189 per person per night and includes a daily lift ticket to Mammoth Mountain, accommodations at the resort and a hearty pre-skiing breakfast. Packages are based on double occupancy and include all taxes and fees.

The Sierra Nevada Resort caters to skiing guests with an official Mammoth Mountain Ski Shop in the lobby that eliminates waiting in line at the mountain for lift tickets and provides on-site equipment rentals and a complimentary shuttle to whisk skiers directly to the slopes.

The recently renovated property includes 15 fireplace suites, six three-bedroom chalets, three restaurants and Duke’s Bar & Fireside Lounge, the intimate bar in the hotel lobby. Duke’s hand-hewn antique bar back, more than 100 years old, was discovered in Long Island and installed at the Sierra Nevada Resort, where it was named after John Wayne. “The Duke” was known to stay at the hotel with his buddies for hunting and fishing trips.

Duke’s offers the Mammoth Martini – a classic cocktail inspired by the Rat Pack stars who once considered the resort a Hollywood hideaway. Another guest favorite is the resort’s famous Ruby Red Sky cocktail, a perfect choice for happy hour by the Grand Fireplace.

Guests will appreciate the Sierra Nevada Resort’s luxurious new room amenities, including heated bathroom floors and toilet seats, soaking tubs, large waterfall showers, kitchenettes, fireplaces, and real leather lounge chairs. In addition, they will enjoy a glimpse of Hollywood’s heyday in and around Mammoth, which has served as the setting for numerous films from Western classics like “True Grit” to contemporary thrillers like Tom Cruise’s “Oblivion.” Photos of vintage movie star guests such as Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and John Wayne line the hallways; and the piano presiding over the lobby once belonged to Carole Lombard, a gift from her husband, Clark Gable.

Nearby ski area legend Mammoth Mountain received the #5 position on “Outside” magazine’s 2013 “Top North American Resorts” list, which described it as “the cool kid on the ski-resort scene,” going on to say: “With more than a dash of California edge, eight terrain parks, and regulars like Shaun White… this Eastern Sierra snow spot (400 inches per season with 300 days of sun) blows most other hills out of the water.” Non-stop winter flights are available to Mammoth Yosemite Airport – just 10 minutes from Mammoth Lakes – from L.A., San Diego, Orange County and San Francisco.

Company Information: Just a short drive from Mammoth Mountain – and walking distance to Mammoth Lakes’ restaurants and shops – the 149-room rustic-luxe Sierra Nevada Resort offers lodging choices from deluxe rooms and fireplace suites to multi-bedroom chalets perfect for families or groups. Amenities include flat screen TVs, free WiFi, cable, coffee makers, down-alternative comforters and triple-sheeted beds in all rooms. Three distinctive restaurants are located on the resort’s six-acre property, including The Red Lantern, with Asian fusion dining; Rafters Restaurant and Lounge; and Jimmy’s Taverna, which opened in December 2012 to acclaim as “the best new restaurant in Mammoth,” specializing in wood-fired seafood and traditional Greek cuisine.
