New Social Media platform to make sense of 500 million daily tweets

A new platform that sorts and displays tweets into specific categories for social media entertainment in cafes and venues has been launched by a Gold Coast based technology company.

Pleeple pushes messages from twitter and other social media sources to a display screen in real time providing a short and up-to-the-minute form of entertainment.

Pleeple in actionDeveloped by Ohayo Media, a technology partner of data and digital display subscription company Flexicast, Pleeple draws from the 500 million daily tweets sent world-wide.

It then categorises them into a growing list including breaking news, pop culture, technology, sport, fashion, finance and trivia.

Ohayo managing director, Andy Leake, says typically up to five messages in any one category are displayed at a time, and refreshed as often as tweets are posted.

“Visually Pleeple provides ultra current information on a particular theme which can change by the second and is very addictive to watch,” Mr Leake says.

“Due to each message being self contained it’s captivating whether you’re queuing for a coffee for five minutes or you’re sitting for hours.

“This is a new form of entertainment that harnesses the massive number of social media messages being put out each day and is perfect for cafes, restaurants, and food courts, or just about anywhere people congregate.”

The platform was developed to help strengthen customer loyalty by increasing their time spent in-store and spend by displaying short form entertainment.

“There are a number of ways cafes, bars and even banks try and entertain their customers while they are in store,” Mr Leake says.

“Unfortunately the solution is most often a TV screen with content that is not relevant and in a format that is not engaging.

“Pleeple’s small but frequent bites of entertainment can be tailored to a particular business and invoke water-cooler talk about the store.”

The Pleeple platform can be thoroughly content filtered, making it safe for public display and relevant to specific audiences, something which is unique to the platform.

Pleeple requires a display such as an LCD, LED, or Plasma screen and an Internet connection with no software required and is compatible with any ambiance, with each tweet featuring an easy to follow link to the full story via a customer’s mobile device.

The new social media platform has already caught the eye of a number of large entertainment venues, including licensed premises.

Bankstown Sports Club, with 60,000-plus members, was excited by the concept of Pleeple at a ‘pre launch’ viewing at the Australasian Gaming Exhibition in Sydney recently.

Sports Bar Manager Adam Sharpe says as soon as he saw Pleeple he knew he wanted it for his patrons.

“We placed our order for it straight away,” Mr Sharpe says.

“This type of content is exactly what we are looking for as it’s a modern way to engage with our patrons.”

Mr Leake says the simplicity of the platform means it’s a set and forget operation with no staff time required to manage it.

“Pleeple provides soundless entertainment and reduces the need to spend on paper entertainment such as newspapers and magazines,” Mr Leake says.

“It also connects strongly with Gen Y as they are more interested in receiving short bites of information.

“We’re confident it will become the must have entertainment for the now generation.”
