What does a household name in the Australian entertainment business, an experienced promoter with more than 300 national tours, and a manager of some of the longest-running iconic homegrown festivals – St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, CMC Country Music Festival and many more – do when starting a new business?

After 12 years as the CEO of Chugg Entertainment, Matthew Lazarus-Hall launched his solo venture – Uncommon Cord, a global activation and experiential event company.

The event industry giant is no stranger to creating unique experiences that attract crowds in droves. His experience in theatre, festivals and concerts, and his passion and ideas for creating events with a heart, a soul and a purpose, are what bring his new clients’ events to life.

“Starting Uncommon Cord was a natural evolution”, says Lazarus-Hall. “My skills and breadth of experience can transition across a diverse range of industries and I am excited to apply this in creating the next generation of events and experiences”, he added.

Since making the move to consulting, Lazarus-Hall has been instrumental in a number of projects that range from event medicine and insurance to live music and tourism, and is proving himself, once again, as a leader in Australia’s live entertainment sector. He still works closely with Chugg Entertainment on a myriad of projects.

“I’m excited to see that only a few months since leaving the CEO role at Chugg Entertainment, Matthew is already expanding his business internationally and working on some really innovative and world class projects”, says Michael Chugg, “While Matthew is still working closely with Chugg Entertainment on a number of tours and special events, the fact that he’s also able to take on these other opportunities and excel in this role, is a testament to his incredible work ethic and diverse skillset.

After only six months in the field, Uncommon Cord has stretched its wings across the globe, with Lazarus-Hall celebrating the company’s expansion into the UK and USA, with offices opening in London and Los Angeles; continuing the brand’s momentum and success already found on home soil.

Of the expansion, Lazarus-Hall states “Uncommon Cord now has access to a vast number of suppliers, locations and expertise that will allows us to produce events never seen before in Australia, if not the world.

The commencement of trade overseas will see Lazarus-Hall contribute to global brands across television, theatre, sport and festivals. He’s promised us he’ll do his best to shepherd these new endeavours back home to Aussie fans as soon as possible. And if his track record is anything to go by, it’s safe to say there’ll be some exciting and uncommon events announced for our shores very soon.
