Cooperstown, culinary and beer trails along with four different golf courses make for the perfect weekend with your best bud – your dad!  This father’s day weekend, head up to Central New York for the ultimate guys getaway and enjoy the weekend celebrating in true father/son fashion.

As the Baseball Hall of Fame celebrates its 75th year, enjoy activities throughout the summer to commemorate the legends you love.  On father’s day weekend, enjoy the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum which houses almost 40,000 artifacts including three-dimensional items, three million books and documents and 500,000 photographs.  Take a step back into baseball history through the three-story timeline with their Plaque Gallery as the main highlight.

Over the course of the weekend when not discovering history about the baseball greats, enjoy a day outdoors and hit the culinary and beverage trails in Central New York.  Indulge in a day of tastings and delectable culinary offerings to whet the palate and please the stomach.

Cooperstown has a centuries-old history of fine drink, going back well before baseball became America’s pastime. Once the hops-growing capital of North America, it now boasts breweries, wineries, and an historic cider mill, each one making world-class beverages for all to enjoy.  In 2004, four of these establishments founded the Cooperstown Beverage Trail, New York State’s first official cuisine trail: Bear Pond Winery, Cooperstown Brewing Company, Brewery Ommegang and the Fly Creek Cider Mill. In 2012, two additional beverage makers joined the Trail: Butternuts Beer & Ale and Rustic Ridge Winery.

At each of these locations, you can enjoy tastings, take a tour to give you a close-up look at how the beverages are made, or just walk around in the specialty shops.

Brewery Ommegang – With five award-winning Belgian-style ales, daily tours and tastings, plus a full calendar of special events, Brewery Ommegang is the place where brewing is an art and partaking is a passion.

The annual “Belgium Comes to Cooperstown,” Ommegang’s exclusive Belgian beer tasting festival will take place August 2-3, 2013 and offers beer enthusiasts the opportunity to taste hard-to-find Belgian ales from the Motherland and Belgian-style ales from all over North America. Seventy-five breweries will be on hand pouring more than 300 unique beers for 3,000 very lucky attendees. In addition to great beer, there is gourmet food vendors, brewing demonstrations, cheese tastings, live music, on-site camping and much more. This year, BCTC will feature a Ferris wheel so guests can get a bird’s eye view of the excitement of the largest and best Belgian beer festival in the country.

Bear Pond Winery – Nestled on a gentle hillside in the heart of the Leather stocking Region of New York State. Bear Pond Winery is a New York State Farm Winery established in 1999.

Cooperstown Brewing Company – Founded in 1994, the Cooperstown Brewing Company brews premium ales, porters, and stouts using the finest two-row English barley malts, West Coast hops and English Ringwood Yeast.

Fly Creek Cider Mill – Historic, water-powered cider mill minutes from Cooperstown. Daily tasting of over 40 specialty foods including fresh fudge, aged cheddar cheese, salsa, apple wines and hard ciders.

Rustic Ridge Winery – Established in 2010, Rustic Ridge is Burlington’s “oldest winery”, located on the Bennett Family Farm. Offering more than a dozen diverse NYS produced and bottled wines, there’s something to please every palate

Butternut Beer and Ale – Established in 2005, Butternuts Beer & Ale is located on a 120 acre farm. The brewery is located in the old dairy barn and some of the seasonal beers are made using hops and wheat grown here in our own fields.
