New ‘Your Margaret River Region’ China App set to go viral

China’s interest in the Margaret River region is bigger than ever before, and there’s never been a better time to announce the very exciting launch of a brand new Chinese version of the Your Margaret River Region app, available now for FREE download across Chinese app stores.

Designed by Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association’s Digital Strategist Christian Bishop, together with award-winning developers Bonobo, the app was softly launched at last week’s Australian Tourism Exchange on the Gold Coast in Queensland, with Chinese and Hong Kong travel agents and industry partners the first to see the detailed work that has gone into ensuring the smartphone app is tailored to meet the Chinese consumer needs. With no official promotion or advertising to the consumer market just yet, the app has already seen upward of 1500+ downloads in only a few short days, a very promising sign of things to come.

Pip Close, CEO of the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association said this new technology reflects a shift in research and booking trends for the Chinese market.

‘Your Margaret River Region has welcomed a significant increase in Chinese visitation over the past 6 months, however one of the challenges has been creating awareness around the quality of product on offer, suited to the Chinese travellers looking for a particular type of holiday experience.’

‘We are definitely noticing a change with a higher number of Chinese FIT travellers, who are self-drive, book via online travel agents, and are very interested in a quality experience that incorporates the renowned food, wine, natural attractions and more, that Your Margaret River Region is famous for. This app will assist with overcoming those hurdles by building an awareness of the experiences on offer in the region, and making them easily viewable and available at their fingertips.’

Figures from TripAdvisor China recently revealed that searches for the Margaret River region have risen by 525 per cent over the last year, and now make up one quarter of all searches for Perth – a massive coup for businesses in the region and one that the south west and Western Australia is set to take advantage of.

With Perth undergoing significant development with the likes of Elizabeth Quay, the new Perth Stadium, Perth City Link, plus numerous new hotel developments, the ability to attract Chinese visitors to the Margaret River region will be enhanced and the region is well placed to be the jewel in the state’s crown.

Defaulting to Mandarin Chinese, this new version of the Your Margaret River Region app has been extensively remodelled to satisfy user needs with features including:

  • A re-ordering of the information categories with a new Essential Information section providing visitors with quick facts and details to help them feel comfortable and at home in the region.
  • The inclusion of new Chinese language audio tours at a number of attractions that can be played on their personal device.
  • An enhanced interactive map providing location links to member services and attractions.

The English version of the app is planned for re-release in July.
