Garnering accolades from local and overseas travellers alike, the Metropark Hotel Wanchai Hong Kong has been officially renamed as Kew Green Hotel Wanchai Hong Kong on 28 November 2016.
Along with the renaming also sees the new positioning of the hotel as a quintessentially British, glamorous chic, and artistically inclined hospitality icon, which aspires to serve as a springboard for the city’s young generation of artists, not least through its collaboration with the Hong Kong Baptist University’s (HKBU) Academy of Visual Arts in the ‘A Closer Look at Hong Kong’ campaign, which enlisted the consummate creative skills of young talents to shed light on the multiple faces of Hong Kong for guests at Kew Green Hotel.
The one-of-a-kind collaborative initiative corresponds with the hotel’s dedication to bring delight and wonder to travellers staying with the hotel, said Mr. Evan Chiu, General Manager of Kew Green Hotel Wanchai Hong Kong: “As a metropolitan hotel located in the heart of the city, Kew Green Hotel Wanchai always strives to set the trend for the industry and bring delight and wonder to our guests. We also hope both business and leisure travellers can get to know Hong Kong better during their stay here.” The success of the collaboration was echoed by Mr. Peter Benz, Associate Professor and Programme Director of the HKBU’s Academy of Visual Arts: “As the first university academy of its kind in Hong Kong, the Academy of Visual Arts aims at providing visual arts degree programmes and is committed to nurturing creative and professional talent of international renown. We are glad to partner with Kew Green Hotel Wanchai Hong Kong in launching this campaign, which provides a platform for our students to unleash their creativity and show the beauty of Hong Kong to travellers from around the world.”
Having participated in the campaign to illustrate Hong Kong as they see it, the 10 budding and up-and-coming local artists are now the proud creators of the art pieces displayed throughout the hotel until 31 December 2017. Guests visiting or staying with Kew Green Hotel Wanchai Hong Kong during this period will have the pleasure to appreciate the resin and ink painting by Ng Sum-chi on the interconnectedness of our daily life; the Chinese ink and ballpoint pen painting by Qian Yin-xiao on the appreciation of old buildings’ unique aesthetics; the acrylic artwork on canvas by Lai Ho on the golden hour in this sleepless and forever bustling city; and the screen-print work by Lau Chun-tao that imagines this restless city when it suddenly grinds to a halt. (Please refer to the appendix for information on all art pieces created by the 10 artists.)
