With the hype building around the upcoming ABSA Cape Epic Cycle Race, Newmark Hotels, Reserves & Lodges are excited to announce their sponsorship of two of this year’s participants.

The team members, who will be travelling from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, are Martijn Mellaart of Mozambique Voyages & Uitkyk Holidays, and Lammert Oosthuizen; both experienced riders and eager to get into the zone. Mozambique Voyages and Uitkyk Holidays have long standing partnerships with Newmark, and actively promote travel to Newmark’s Mozambique property, Coral Lodge 15.41.

“We have always been partial to cycling, and feel that there is massive potential to grow cycling tourism in South Africa”, says Neil Markovitz, MD of Newmark and an avid cyclist himself. “Being involved in cycling events, like the ABSA Cape Epic, is a great way of creating further awareness for cycling tourism.”

While Martijn has never ridden the ABSA Cape Epic before, he has attained numerous achievements over the years for a number of other well-known cycle races, such as the Wine 2 Whales Stage Race and the Sabie Experience Stage Race. Not one to shy away from a challenge, The ABSA Cape Epic has long been on Martijn’s Bucket List.

Also no stranger to the rush of a race, this year will be Lammert’s second time riding the ABSA Cape Epic. He previously competed in 2011, and has competed in a number of others between then and now. A family man and father to two kids, Lammert loves the physical push of mountain bike races.
