Summer of Outdoor Cinema returns to waterfront venues in Britain’s Ocean City

Following the success of the past six years, Plymouth Arts Centre has announced its show-stopping line-up of fabulous films for this year’s outdoor cinema programme at three spectacular waterfront venues.  Making the most of Plymouth’s exceptional coastal location, a selection of new and classic films will be shown at the city’s Grade II listed art deco Lido, historic Royal William Yard and the woodland setting of Mount Edgcumbe.  Some of the programme highlights include Jane Campion’s award-winning The Piano, a 50th anniversary screening of the Beatles’ iconic Yellow Submarine (including a pre-feature of archive footage of The Beatles’ 1960s visit to Plymouth), Some Like It Hot, Jaws, Dirty Dancing and blockbuster The Greatest Showman.

The programme will commence on Friday 20 July and run through until Saturday 15 September, 2018.  Tickets prices vary between venues but start at £8; VIP tickets are also available and will go on sale via the Plymouth Arts Centre from 19 June.

Something wicked this way comes – Macbeth announced for Bard In The Yard, 2018

Plymouth’s Barbican theatre is proud to present William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the fourth production in the popular annual ’Bard in the Yard’ programme, in the garden of Residence One at Royal William Yard.  The production is part of Barbican Theatre’s commitment to creating high quality, accessible work while supporting and developing local talent.

Macbeth is a good man, a courageous war hero, respected and loyal. He recognises an opportunity for advancement, he is talented, ambitious….and his wife even more so. But what lengths will he go to secure his power and what will he do with this power?  Set in a war-torn country Macbeth is a powerful metaphor for our times. This is a breath-taking and bloody story of ambition, treachery, power and guilt.  This is a highly visual, energised and accessible re-telling of the classic Shakespeare play, using the extraordinary skills of local professional actors and emerging artists.  Tickets £17 / £19.  More details here:
