Excitement builds for Armed Forces Day later this month

On Saturday 30 June, Plymouth’s proud military tradition will be on display at the annual Armed Forces Day, which this year will be commemorating the RAF’s 100th anniversary.  The free event at Plymouth Hoe will showcase the Services with parades and displays on the ground and an exciting air display over Plymouth Sound.  The event draws over 50,000 attendees and works in partnership with all Armed Forces in this military city.

This year, arena programme returns with the show-stopping Field Gun competitions and Parade of Standards which will see cadets and veterans march across the Hoe Promenade. There will also be military vehicles, equipment and static helicopters to see up close and visitors can meet the Royal Navy, Army, Marines, RAF and veterans’ organisations in a variety of villages set out across the Hoe.

The aerial display is difficult to rival in the South West – this year, aircraft including a Spitfire XIV, a Calidus Gyro and a Catalina will take to the skies above Plymouth Sound to entertain spectators, who will also be able to enjoy dramatic aerobatic shows.  Aerobatics team displays will be performed by Team Raven, the Muscle Pitts team biplane and the Fireflies Aerobatic Display Team.   Other displays include the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers and the official parachute display team of the British Army, the Red Devils.  From 6pm, a variety of performers will take to the main stage for a free outdoor evening concert, treating the audience to some great performances against the stunning backdrop of Plymouth Sound.
