Celebrity Chef announced for Plymouth Flavour Fest 2018
MasterChef judge and celebrity chef John Torode will be the star of the chef stage at this year’s Flavour Fest on 1 – 3 June, 2018. Visitors can look forward to an exciting three-day programme of chef demonstrations, food stalls, street food and entertainment for all the family with John Torode performing two cookery demonstrations on the main stage at the Piazza on Saturday 2 June. Pirates Weekend Plymouth – 12-13 May 2018
The Barbican, Sutton Harbour and West Hoe, Plymouth
Visit Plymouth’s historic waterfront for a swashbuckling weekend of fun for the whole family. Visitors will be able to hop aboard two tall ships docked in Sutton Harbour while sea shanty bands fill the streets and puppeteers captivate the crowds. Armed Forces’ Day – Saturday 30 June

Plymouth will celebrate its proud military tradition at the annual Armed Forces Day, which this year will be commemorating the RAF’s 100th anniversary. The exciting arena programme will return, and from 6pm, performers will take to the main stage for a free outdoor evening concert against the stunning backdrop of Plymouth Sound. Foundation stone laid for Plymouth’s new cultural and heritage centre
The foundation stone for Plymouth’s new cultural and heritage centre, The Box, was laid at a ceremony last week. The £37 million gallery and museum complex will house seven collections in one building and will open as the flagship building for the Mayflower 400 commemorations in spring 2020. Plymouth plans to ditch plastics
A bold bid to phase out single use plastics in Plymouth has been agreed by Plymouth City Council. The plan being considered would see an Ocean City Plastics Task Force set up to co-ordinate a citywide effort to rid the city of most single use plastics. Did you know?

After being appointed as a member of parliament for Plymouth Sutton, Nancy Astor entered the House of Commons on 1 December 1919, becoming the first female MP in British history to take a seat in parliament. Plans are already afoot in Plymouth to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this important event in 2019.
