Melbourne’s newest central dual-branded hotel accommodation, Novotel Melbourne Central and ibis Melbourne Central, will accept guests from 12 November as part of a soft opening, ahead of an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday 10 December.

Located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, the integrated new-build Novotel and ibis hotels add 483 midscale and premium economy rooms to Melbourne’s booming hotel industry.

Housed in a 35-floor tower on Little Lonsdale Street, the property is home to restaurants Goldie Asian Canteen + Brews and Pretty Boy Italian Steakhouse, as well as Floyd’s bar.

Employing over 120 local staff, the opening comes as inbound tourism continues to grow, with tourism from international visitors set to increase by 75% before the end of the next decade[1]. Since construction began in December 2016, the new build has employed 1,126 Australian builders and contractors for 243,000-man hours, with a contract value of $94,000,000.

Surrounded by Melbourne’s best laneway dining and shopping culture, Novotel Melbourne Central and Ibis Melbourne Central’s prime position offers guests a true immersion into Australia’s most cosmopolitan city. From exploring top museums to discovering the city’s best kept foodie secrets and world-class shopping, guests have unapparelled access to the local urban culture right on their doorstep.

Occupying levels 20-35, Novotel Melbourne Central’s 213 rooms and suites offer luxury fittings at an accessible price. Bedding is of a five-star quality, with granite and marble benches accented with gold trim inspired by Cartier. Each Novotel room is fitted with deluxe rainfall showers, as well as top-of-the-line 55” Google Chromecast televisions. Novotel guests have access to its InBalance gymnasium and 24-hour guest services and concierge desk.

Located on levels 4-18, ibis Melbourne Central is ideal for guests seeking a central base to explore the city. With 270 premium economy guest rooms averaging 18 square metres, the hotel offers comfort and quality fittings without breaking the bank. Luxurious bedding, rainfall showers and 49” Google Chromecast televisions will add to guest’s premium economy in-room experience, while 24-hour guest services and concierge enables ibis guests to discover Melbourne’s best-kept secrets.

Executive Chef Michael Smith is at the helm of three restaurants and bars at the property that will appeal to Melbourne’s foodie heart, taking inspiration from surrounding areas and the coloured history of Little Lonsdale Street. With an official launch set to occur in January 2019, Goldie Asian Canteen + Brews, Pretty Boy Italian Steakhouse and Floyd’s Bar will be the latest hotspots in Melbourne’s expanding culinary scene.

Chef Smith previously headed Melbourne’s renowned Tonka with Executive Chef Adam D’Sylva from 2012 to 2015, when he took on the Head Chef role at Mamasita in 2016. His prior experience included working with legendary chef Jacques Reymond and stints in Bangkok.

General Manager of Novotel Melbourne Central and ibis Melbourne Central, Michelle Bradshaw said, “This is a significant, first of its kind dual-branded hotel development for Melbourne and AccorHotels. Our central location and two levels of midscale and premium economy accommodation means that there is an option for all travellers to have a 5-star sleep at affordable prices. We are delighted to open our doors and welcome guests this November.”
