The NRMA and surfing legend Mark Occhilupo will be touring NSW North Coast and Gold Coast beaches on a surfing road trip designed to encourage families to holiday locally this Christmas and support regional tourism.
The Australian surfing legend and 1999 world champion will begin his surfing road trip at the Gold Coast on Monday – where the NRMA owns the Treasure Island Holiday Park – before heading down the east coast, stopping at famous NSW surfing beaches.
The tour will end at Coffs Harbour with a stop at the NRMA’s Darlington Beach Holiday Park.
Mark will be joined on the surfing trip with his 13-year old son Jay – a surfing champion in his own right – and will test drive popular family vehicles the Toyota Kluger and Subaru Forester.
The tour is designed to raise awareness of some of the state’s hidden gem family and surfing holiday destinations and encourage families to support regional tourism these Christmas holidays. The tour will also be featured in the January edition of the NRMA’s award-winning Member magazine, The Open Road, which is read by 1.145 million people – making it Australia’s sixth most read magazine.
“I love road trips – I’ve been doing them all my life. The North coast is rich in beaches and surfing in all conditions. I’m just really excited to be taking a surfing road trip with Jay-boy,” Mark said.
“It’s so great the NRMA is letting me show off some of my favourite spots. I travel the world to surf, but some of the best is right here.”
NRMA Executive General Manager of Travel & Touring Paul Davies said the NRMA’s partnership with Mark was designed to send a timely reminder to families that some of the world’s best holiday destinations were in our own back yard.
“The beaches along the NSW and Queensland border are among the best in the world and as far as holiday destinations go, you’ll struggle to find a more enjoyable, affordable and local place to take the family these holidays,” Mr Davies said.
“Helping families plan and enjoy a great journey is at the heart of what the NRMA is all about. We’re not just talking about it, we’ve invested in it, with holiday parks offering families affordable beachside destinations on the Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour, the Central Coast and Merimbula.
“Regional tourism deserves our support, it not only offers great places for families to take a break but it also supports local businesses. So Mark Occhilupo and the NRMA have packed our bags and surfboards for a North Coast getaway and we want our Members to do the same.”
