Tourism employment accounts for one in every 23 jobs in NSW with around 272,000 jobs directly or indirectly created thanks to the booming industry. The Tourism industry in NSW is worth over $35 billion per year to the economy with 3.3 million international visitors and 27.8 million domestic overnight visitors every year. And when all those visitors arrive on our doorstep, their first impression is usually the one they experience at any one of the 1,300+ accommodation establishments at which they choose to stay.
That’s why the NSW Government and Austrade have thrown their support behind a new industry-led initiative: The Hotel Career Expo.
The Hotel Career Expo aims to shine a light on the diverse professional career pathways available in the hotel industry, in order to attract high quality professionals into the hotel industry to ensure that the first impression every visitor has is the right one.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said ensuring we have the right people, with the right skills, in the industry is critical to the delivery of a world-class visitor experience and to NSW’s competitiveness as a destination.
“This is why the NSW Government is committed to encouraging career choices in tourism and hospitality. The Hotel Career Expo will play an important role in attracting the next generation of skilled and ambitious tourism and hospitality professionals.
“With the support of industry, we want to see the growth of tourism and hospitality careers, as the industry really does offer a great world of opportunities for young people,” concluded Minister Ayres.
The Expo is designed as the ultimate gateway for students, graduates and young professionals to find out more about the endless professional career opportunities available in Australia’s leading hotel brands – from hotel management, to sales and marketing, engineering, finance, IT, human resources, chefs and many more – there’s a career path for just about everyone in the hotel industry.
