The NSW Government, in partnership with its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, has chalked up another first for the State, hosting thirty-three key Japanese agents at the inaugural Destination NSW Focus on Japan event last week.

The delegates attended a one-day workshop held in Sydney to meet with thirty-three NSW tourism suppliers at the Australian National Maritime Museum on Friday, 31 May 2019.

NSW tourism suppliers ranged from some of our harbour city’s most iconic landmarks, such as The Sydney Opera House and Taronga Zoo, to our adventurous regional attractions, such Port Stephens 4WD Tours, showcasing the versatility of our State’s offerings through one-to-one appointments.

The event was created as part of Destination NSW’s International Business Development program, in partnership with Qantas to further promote their direct service from both Tokyo and Osaka, to Sydney.

The official proceedings were followed by a spectacular dinner held at Luna Park’s Palais, where delegates were enchanted with uninterrupted views of Sydney Harbour, during Vivid Sydney, while enjoying some of NSW’s finest fare.
Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres said the workshop provided a forum for NSW’s tourism suppliers to give agents a first-hand taste of Australia’s top tourism State.

“Through the work of Destination NSW, our State’s tourism businesses, wholesalers and retailers were front and centre with a number of Japan’s best travel agents in our very own backyard.

“In the past year, we welcomed close to 200,000 visitors from Japan to NSW, injecting over $400 million into the State – up by a staggering 16 per cent on 2017,” Mr Ayres said.

Destination NSW CEO Sandra Chipchase said the work of the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency continued to provide businesses with the opportunity to sell their products to the world.

“Our International Business Development Program encourages an increased presence of NSW products, experiences and destinations in our key markets, educating international wholesalers and front-line agents about NSW tourism products and destination suppliers, equipping them with a better understanding of the needs and specific characteristics of key international markets,” Ms Chipchase said.

As part of their trip, the agents were also taken on a familiarisation program which included the Blue Mountains, Port Stephens, Hunter Valley and South Coast, ensuring they were able to authentically experience the best of our bush, capital and coastline across Australia’s most unique State.
