Leading accommodation provider Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites is making its move on Queensland’s largest inland city, Toowoomba, announcing plans to open a 102-suite hotel in 2020 called Oaks Toowoomba Hotel.

Already under construction, the nine-story, new-build development will occupy the former Gladstone Hotel site on Kwong Sang Walk, which pays tribute to the town’s multicultural community and is part of the ongoing revitalisation of Ruthven Street in the CBD.

Practical completion is earmarked for Q1 2020, with the hotel set to open its doors to guests soon after.

Just 90 minutes west of Queensland’s capital of Brisbane, this regional city – fondly referred to as the state’s ‘Garden City’ – is set high on the edge of the Great Dividing Range and overlooks the Lockyer Valley.

A major hub for health, agriculture, manufacturing, industry and education, Toowoomba is characterised by historical architecture and landmarks, a vibrant street art scene, exquisite gardens and tree-lined neighbourhoods, and the iconic Cobb & Co Museum – which traces the history of the region’s fascinating horse-drawn transport era.

Mr Craig Hooley, Chief Operating Officer of Minor Hotels – Australia & New Zealand – said the company was looking forward to expanding the Oaks brand into Toowoomba in responsiveness to market demand.

“Oaks Toowoomba Hotel marks our debut in Toowoomba and we are delighted to bring our brand to Queensland’s largest inland city. We currently operate over 20 properties across the state and this new-build development will complement our growing Queensland network.

“We identified Toowoomba as an attractive expansion opportunity, lending to a number of major infrastructure projects currently underway in the region, including the Wellcamp Airport, Second Range Crossing Project, and Inland Rail Project.

“This significant infrastructure investment, paired with ongoing growth across various industries, represents great confidence in the region’s economy, and an appetite for additional accommodation options,” he said.

Upon completion in 2020, Oaks Toowoomba Hotel will feature a total of 102 well-appointed and self-contained suites, complete with kitchenettes and views of the surrounding area.

It will also offer a selection of retail operators on ground floor, as well as a tavern, café, versatile conference and event facilities, well-equipped gymnasium and lap pool.
