Starting on 14 December, Ocean Park will be transformed into an underwater world, with a glittering coral-themed Christmas topiary and adorable marine décor throughout the Park, offering guests a merry maritime Christmas Sensation.

Guests can also look forward to savouring a wide range of exclusive Christmas-themed culinary delights, featuring sustainable seafood and other quality ingredients, all presented in the most surprising and memorable fashion. The Park has also prepared many Christmas merchandise, including clothing and plush toys themed on animal ambassadors and the mysterious ocean. Many of these retail items are doubly meaningful, with Christmas designs and marine conservation messages.

Mr. Nick Lee, Senior Food and Beverage Operations Manager, said, “As the theme of this year’s Christmas Sensation is ‘Beneath the Waves’, we hope to offer guests from around the world a joyous yuletide celebration while promoting marine conservation. When designing different dishes, we not only paid attention to their visual presentation but also ensured only sustainable seafood ingredients were used. Guests who enjoy their Christmas feasts at Ocean Park can therefore make a difference to conservation. As well, the Park donates 5% of gross revenue from Tuxedos Restaurant to the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation, Hong Kong in support of conservation projects concerning the impact of climate change on wildlife, thereby enabling guests to contribute to conservation while enjoying delicious dishes.” Lee also noted that Ocean Park’s food and beverage sales during last Christmas recorded a year-on-year rise of 12%. He expects to see the same level of increase this year.

Chef Lewis Liu said, “This year’s dishes feature adorable marine animal designs, such as the lobster, the octopus and the crab, which are sure to bring a smile – an essential ingredient of a Christmas feast. We also created many delectable desserts, highlighted by Poseidon’s Castle – a chocolate mousse cake made with Valrhona chocolate, a favourite among all chocolate lovers.”

Ms. Vania Mak, Retail Operations Merchandising Manager, said, “This year we are introducing a wide range of clothing and adorable plush toys featuring designs inspired by our animal ambassadors and the ocean. The packaging of the dolphin plush, for instance, includes a QR code that directs consumers to information about dolphins and their conservation.  Anyone who purchases a reusable souvenir bottle will receive two soft drink coupons. Guests can enjoy a $2 discount on future refills with the reusable bottle at food kiosks and three designated restaurants. The campaign aims to encourage guests to use reusable bottles, thereby helping reduce debris.” Ms. Mak also noted that as Christmas is a crucial period for merchandise sales, the Park achieved a 25% year-on-year increase during the Christmas period last year and expects to see a 30% year-on-year increase this year.

Many local companies hold Christmas parties for their staff. To cater to the corporate market, Ocean Park has introduced “Night Excitement” package, which starts at HK$420 per guest. The package price includes night admission and dinner at one of the Park’s many themed restaurants, which will be reserved for the whole party. To make Ocean Park an even more popular Christmas destination for the entire family, Ocean Park is offering 30% discount on regular admission tickets for local guests, children and students until 20 December. From now until 31 December 2013, guest who apply for or renew  their annual pass can enjoy a validity period of 14 months.
