Odaiba Decks Tokyo Beach Showcases Grand Fireworks Events Provide Hands-on Experience in Japanese Culture

Odaiba, a 15-minute car ride from Haneda Airport in Tokyo, has become an enormously popular destination among foreign tourists to Japan.

On Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, visitors to Decks Tokyo Beach will be treated to Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival, a traditional Tokyo-style fireworks display, that will light up the summer skyline of the Tokyo Bay area, including Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower.

Moreover, Decks Tokyo Beach is a unique commercial complex combining amusement facilities, theme-based restaurants and fashion outlets. Its amusement facilities include Tokyo Joypolis, one of the largest indoor amusement parks in Japan; Madame Tussauds Tokyo with over 60 life-size wax figures of the world’s celebrities; LEGOLAND Discovery Center Tokyo with more than 3 million pieces of LEGO (R) block; and Daiba 1-chome Retro Shopping Mall reminiscent of the Japanese capital when it hosted the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. About 12,000 fireworks will illuminate the night sky over Tokyo Bay.

— Beigoma lesson
Beigoma is a game in which players bump their beigoma (made of cast metal) spinning tops together. Participants can borrow beigoma for free of charge. The winners of the Beigoma Championship will receive special gifts.

— 2 Days of Kami-shibai (picture-card show)
Kami-shibai is a street show popular among children with a storyteller telling stories with picture cards. Foreign tourists even with limited knowledge of the Japanese language can thoroughly enjoy it.

(1) Traditional picture-card shows
A 35-year veteran of picture-card shows will narrate Japanese folklore.
