OK own up, did you pull a sickie today?

A recent survey by leading travel search site Skyscanner has found that 15% of Australians have lied to their boss in order to get time off work.

So did you call in sick to extend your public holiday today?

The survey of over 500 Australians revealed that workers used a whole range of crafty excuses to get time off, including the good old, “cough, cough, I’m sick” trick (5%), or pretending that another family member was sick (4%).

Some workers even decided that pretending to go on a honeymoon would put them in a better position to secure some time away from their jobs.

Only a small fraction (1%) of people went to extreme lengths and bribed a fellow colleague to back up the ‘lie’ to make it more convincing.

It is good to know though that Australian workers aren’t totally dodgy, with 30% saying they made sure to book the time off more than six months in advance.

Dave Boyte, Market Development Manager Australia and New Zealand said, ‘with time being so precious to employers and their employees, people can resort to some desperate measures in order to get time off”.
