Olympic Success on the Slopes Sparks Ski Fever in Santa Fe

Officials with The Art Hotel of Santa Fe, La Posada de Santa Fe, ranked by Condé Nast Traveler readers as one of the 25 best resorts in the Southwest and awarded four diamonds by AAA, report that the outbreak of ski fever brought on by the Winter Olympics has been inflamed by the addition of two feet of fresh snow at Ski Santa Fe.

The only known cure for the affliction, sometimes called “March Madness,” is break from the daily routine in a snowy location at high altitude.

“Families caught the fever during the Winter Olympics, and now the new snow has elevated the condition. Because Santa Fe is just a few hours away from so many cities that have no skiing, it’s an ideal destination to break the fever,” said Ben Tutt, general manager at La Posada de Santa Fe. “Ski Santa Fe is just 16 miles away, and for those whose passions tend more towards galleries than gondolas, our vibrant art scene is on full display year round. Missing out on spring skiing could lead to a prolonged case of March Madness that could last as long as eight or nine months.”

La Posada is offering a two night ski package, including lift tickets and a $50 resort credit for the month of March, starting at $448. Guests who prefer pampering over powder packed slopes might consider the hotel’s spa packages, including a massage, facial or the signature Santa Fe chocolate chili wrap starting at $249 per night.

“Ski vacations are about ambiance as much as athletics,” Tutt noted. “Our fireplace casitas, outdoor kivas and hot tub, coupled with our famous Mayan hot cocoa and nightly entertainment in the Staab House, combine for the perfect après ski atmosphere. And, if you overdo it on the slopes, our skilled therapists can restore those achy muscles.”

Tutt noted that those who suffer from that other strain of March Madness are likely to find that basketball tournament on TV, too.
