Sultanate of Oman Tourism and a large group of travel agents from Australia and New Zealand have just returned from a highly sought after mega-educational to Oman flying with Qatar Airways – Skytrax Airline of the Year 2015.
“We were delighted to bring such a terrific group of travel specialists to Oman on the wonderful services of Qatar Airways. The on-board product and services were faultless, and the convenient connections over Doha proved to be the perfect way to travel”, commented Sandra Cahill – Sales Manager Australia, Sultanate of Oman Tourism.
Over eight memorable days this group of adventurers explored Oman in the expert hands of Oman World Tourism – the local DMC for Adventure World, World Expeditions and Crooked Compass.
The group spent time in the wonderfully authentic capital Muscat, journeyed along the stunning coastline towards the charming port town of Sur – swimming in the remarkable Bimmah Sinkhole along the way, before viewing turtles nesting by moonlight, hatchlings emerging at sunrise on the pristine beaches around Ras Al Jinz.
Visits were made to some of the country’s finest swimming holes like Wadi Bani Khalid, before venturing out into the golden dunes of the Sharqiya Sands enjoying a sparkling night under desert skies at Desert Palm Camp.
They visited the ancient capital of Nizwa, famous for its monumental fort and lively souk before heading into the foothills of the Hajar mountains to explore the hillside garden village of Misfat Al Abreyan. From there the journey continued up into the cool, high plateau and peaks of Jabel Shams – Mountain of the Sun – and the canyons and clifftop villages of Jebel Akhdar – the Green Mountain – where a night immersed in the renowned generous hospitality of the breath-taking Alila Jabal Akhdar resort was a highlight.
The final few days were spent enjoying Muscat more deeply including visits to the stunning Al Bustan Palace ~ A Ritz~Carlton Hotel, and The Chedi Muscat, coastal neighbourhoods and beaches. Some agents even taking in an opera performance at the Royal Opera house Muscat, while those more keen on a physical pursuit took their seats at the Oman versus New Zealand football friendly.
“Beyond the breathtaking scenery, Oman showed me a deep and meaningful beauty I’ve never experienced before. Open spaces, open minds and open doors permeate a warm welcome you will never forget”, said Deb Duncan – MTA Travel Expert.
The journey was brought to a luxurious close enjoying the generous hospitality of the exquisite Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa, and sailing the turquoise waters and honey-coloured coves that scallop the coastline around Muscat on SY Azzura, a luxury 75’ catamaran.
The educational of a lifetime indeed.
