The Sultanate of Oman’s most-visited national monument to re-open on 06 November 2015.
Oman’s Ministry of Culture and Heritage, and the Ministry of Tourism have announced that the majestic Nizwa Fort will re-open to the public after the successful completion of regulation maintenance works that commenced in July.
“Nizwa Fort has been a remarkable architectural and historical Omani
treasure for centuries”, says Mona Tannous – Country Manager Sultanate
of Oman Tourism Australia/New Zealand.
“The fort’s underlying structure dates as far back as the 12th Century, and to ensure this formidable stronghold of antiquity stands up to the wear-and-tear of the centuries ahead, regular maintenance is required. Nizwa Fort was the administrative seat of authority for presiding Imams, and is a powerful reminder of the town’s significance through Oman’s long history, and we are delighted that it is due to re-open to the visiting public”, continued Ms Tannous.
