In time for ‘FIFA World Cup fever’, On The Go Tours have announced a new 10-day Russia tour for 2018 taking in the top sights of St Petersburg, Moscow and the remote beauty of the Solovetsky Islands.

Kicking off 9 June, the tour dives deep into Russia’s rich history and visits its thriving cities and provinces that make up this truly fascinating country.

Only accessible by boat during the summer months, the Solovetsky Islands (also known as Solovki) are located in the Onega Bay of the White Sea. Travellers will be guided through one of Russia’s most famous Monasteries, Solovki Monastery, dating back to the 16th century. The remote location was used to house one of the Soviet Union’s most infamous Gulags during Stalin’s reign in the 1920’s.

The next day, take a boat to the Bolshoy Zayatsky Island with its mythical and unexplained labyrinths and spot the majestic Beluga Whales along the Beluga Cape.

On the mainland, travellers will visit the UNESCO-listed city of St Petersburg and its iconic sites including Nevsky Prospekt, Church on Spilled Blood and The Bronzed Horseman. Take in the jewels of Russia’s capital, Moscow, with a guided walk around Red Square to see the brightly coloured St Basil’s Cathedral and the mighty Kremlin.

“We’ve seen our Russia tours increase in popularity showing 20% up on last years’ bookings,” says Natalie James, General Manager Australia for On The Go Tours. “Russia is a captivating country and we’re very excited to be developing new product here for our travellers. We’re confident we will see more Australians visiting in the years to come.”

The 10-day St Petes, Solovki and Moscow tour departing 9 June starts from $5,695 per person and includes comfortable accommodation, most meals, an English speaking guide and all relevant transfers and transport on the tour.

The tour will return in 2019 with three departures; 29 June, 13 July and 3 August.
