On November 16th 2017 at the RCGS’s Annual Dinner of the College of Fellows, Andrew Prossin, founder and Managing Director of One Ocean Expeditions, received the prestigious Lawrence J. Burpee Medal, one of the top honours bestowed by the RCGS. This medal was given to honour OOE’s outstanding commitment to geography and the Society.

As well as presenting a number of other prestigious awards that evening, the RCGS welcomed an ‘A’ list of new, distinguished individuals to its ‘College of Fellows’, joining over 800 seasoned Fellows including OOE’s Senior Management team. The College of Fellows acts as the voting body of the Society, working to further the RCGS mission of making Canada better known to Canadians and to the world.

Of the new Fellows welcomed to the college, a staggering eight are either working directly with OOE in their Squamish office, or are collaborating on various levels across the company contributing a wide range of skills and expertise. “We are proud to be partnered with such esteemed individuals that directly contribute to our programs’ values of education, science, and exploration, while further strengthening our partnership with the RCGS” says Andrew Prossin.

This year’s new RCGS Fellows include four of OOE’s collaborative photographers, including Daisy Gilardini, all renowned artists who are part of our comprehensive expedition photography program onboard with the mission to capture the beauty of destinations, culture, and wildlife to enhance passenger’s experiences. RCGS also welcomed OOE’s Public & Media Relations representative, also president of EM Adventure Marketing into the College of Fellows, along with several OOE ambassadors and media personalities who have travelled onboard to generate impactful destination coverage and enhance OOE’s exposure globally. Each of these Fellows have been acknowledged for their commitment to furthering the understanding of Canadian geography, history and culture across Canada and abroad.

As a Fellow of the RCGS, individuals are committed to enhancing their support of the Society’s educational, research and expedition programs in Canada, raising the profile of the RCGS while expanding Canadian geographic literacy. The RCGS is one of Canada’s oldest and largest non-profit educational organizations, dedicated to promoting and enhancing public awareness for Canadian geography and strengthening the bond between Canadians and their geographic heritage.
