Spread the love

It’s a simple question, but it can be one of the hardest to ask – R U OK? However, for many people just knowing that someone cares, can be the catalyst for them to speak up and ask for help.http://www.itb-asia.com/press/media-services/accreditation/ At Corporate Traveller we have seen first-hand the difference R U OK? can make, with funds raised at our 2017 Christmas parties being used recently to reach out to people living and working in rural and remote communities.

As an R U OK? business partner, through the Flight Centre Foundation, Corporate Traveller is proud to be helping to spread their message of suicide prevention. And while national R U OK? Day has just passed on 13 September 2018, it’s a message that is relevant 365 days a year.

R U OK? created The Mateship Manual – an information pack providing people with tips on how to start a conversation with someone doing it tough.

Corporate Traveller has many clients operating in the construction and mining sectors in remote regions and we want to support the mental wellbeing of their employees. The harsh environment and isolation can be very challenging, with long periods away from loved ones and the feeling of disconnection. So, it’s important for people in these communities to look out for each other and The Mateship Manual has been designed to address these very specific issues.

In June this year, over 2000 manuals were sent to the Corporate Traveller head office in Perth for distribution to remote communities in the Pilbara. A team from Corporate Traveller also visited one of Altura’s mine sites in the region, along with the CEO of R U OK? Brendan Maher and a film crew which recorded a very powerful video to promote the R U OK? message.

According to Brendan Maher, “the manuals have been well received.  If they help just one person start a conversation with someone they are worried about, it’s done its job”.
