One Star House Party has taken up residence in the iconic SoHo Printing Press – the historical venue that launched the group with James Sharman’s renowned pop-up in January.Helmed by an Avengers-style team of six restaurant professionals, each member handles everything from the door to the dishes – there are no titles at One Star House Party. Following on from the success of their first event, the team conquered New York with a sold-out six-night pop-up before driving cross-country to San Francisco, sourcing ingredients as they went and developing the California menu on the road.
Now returning to Hong Kong, One Star House Party hopes to shake up the dining scene with a model that breaks the mold. Whilst SoHo Printing Press will serve as their headquarters, their exploratory approach to menu creation will continue. The space will open for only one week each month. The group will spend the remainder of their time travelling and delving into niche dining cultures from around the world. They will build one of their signature pop-ups in each destination before returning to home base with a haul of ingredients ready to be cooked up for their Hong Kong audience. Each shared tasting menu is crafted around the team’s experience in each country, whether they encounter a rice paddy in Taiwan or a smoke house in Texas, essentially creating a new restaurant each month.
“Our unconventional model allows us to be inspired by ingredients, food cultures and people from all walks of life. It’s a privilege to be able to share the experiences we have with Hong Kong,” says Sharman.
This year alone, Hong Kongers can look forward to expertly crafted menus reflective of Buenos Aires, Taipei and Tokyo to name but a few.
One Star House Party will serve their San Francisco tasting menu (HK$1,000 p.p) from 10 – 18 May 2016.
