Oops – airline flies great-grandparents to wrong city

March 29, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

An airline that prides itself on service to customers took special care of a 96-year-old woman and her 89-year-old husband – only to wheel them the wrong gate and fly them to the wrong destination.

The embarrassing mishap happened at a South Florida airport and the couple, who are both great-grandparents, ended up on a flight to Ogdensburg, New York instead of to Grand Rapids, Michigan. The two destinations are about 850km apart.

George Nobel and his wife Helen Wheeker were put on the wrong Allegiant Air flight on Wednesday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, www.local10.com reported.

The airline blamed a malfunctioning boarding-pass scanner for not alerting crew to the mix-up. An Allegiant spokesperson apologised and said the couple had been given a full refund.
