Optimism is high for travel insurance

An astounding 77% of respondents to a recent SureSave poll of over 420 agents have stated they are confident they can increase travel insurance sales in the next 12 months.

Michael Callaghan, Executive General Manager at SureSave, says the increased confidence goes far beyond the notion that travellers are simply ‘better informed’ when it comes to the importance of travel insurance.

“In responding to our nationwide research project, agents cited their increasing determination, experience and customer service skills as driving factors for their ongoing success. Our figures agreed, showing that agents are incredibly knowledgeable about the benefits provided by a range of Australian travel insurance providers. For example, two thirds (67%) of agents say they regularly review and compare offerings,” says Callaghan.

“With almost eight in ten agents aiming to increase their sales in 2014, SureSave is devising a range of new sales tools to support agents’ expertise and knowledge and, in doing so, enhance their bottom line.”

“The general sentiment around sales optimism is re-enforced by the results indicating that 60% of agents sell policies to more than half of their travelling customers,” says Callaghan.

In the words of one agent: “Clients are now very aware of the consequences and resultant disruptions that can ensue as a consequence of worldwide weather volatility, cruise ships running aground, earthquakes, volcanic ash and tsunamis just to name a few… A strong recommendation for travel insurance will ensure more clients, even the young ones, will take up insurance…”
