A review of travel plans by customers of leading travel insurance provider Allianz Global Assistancefound that Orlando and Cancun are this year’s most popular domestic and international destinations for spring break.
Allianz Global Assistance reviewed more than two million of its customers’ bookings from late February to early April and found that Cancun accounted for 30 percent of trips. Other international destinations ranking in the top 10 were San Juan, Puerto Rico; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Nassau, Bahamas; London, England; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Aruba Island, Aruba; and Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands. Travel to Mexico accounted for more than half (52 percent) of international trips.
Domestically, the review showed that Orlando was the top destination followed by Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Denver, San Francisco, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa.
With Las Vegas being one of the top five spring break destinations, Allianz Global Assistance recently surveyed Americans to find out if “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” The results showed that the famous slogan holds true, with the majority (55 percent) of people reporting that “what happened in Vegas” stayed in the popular spring travel destination.
“No matter if travelers are headed to Mexico, Orlando, Las Vegas or elsewhere for spring break, it’s important to understand that unexpected events do happen and prudent travelers should protect themselves with travel insurance,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA. “The right travel insurance policy can provide coverage and assistance for many unforeseen or unexpected events like covered trip cancelations and delays, lost, stolen or delayed luggage, medical emergencies and more.”*
